Acasă, My Home

The documentary, directed by Romanian journalist and filmmaker Radu Ciorniciuc, presents a compelling tale of an impoverished family living on the fringes of Romanian society, fighting for acceptance and their version of freedom.

In the wilderness of Bucharest’s Văcărești Delta, nine children and their parents lived in perfect harmony with nature for 20 years until they were chased out and forced to adapt to life in the big city. As the Enache family struggled to conform to modern civilization and maintain their connection to each other and themselves, they began to question their place in the world and their future.

The documentary submerges the viewer into a powerful emotional journey of adaptation to the challenges of urban life, with all the struggles related to housing, education, and social integration.

In the spirit of our mission, beyond the partnership with the film crew to raise awareness for the challenges faced by children in poverty, we continued to provide educational scholarships, food and clothing, school supplies, and emergency support to the children from the Enache family to enable them to navigate the challenges they encountered since they moved out of the Văcărești Delta.

Director

The harmonious bond with nature and the difficulties of Enache’s wild lifestyle dictated the social dynamics inside the family. The bond between the members was forged not only by love but also by their will to stay alive. Only by working and being together could the family survive in that harsh environment.

Screenwriter & Journalist

The documentary proved to be the most beautiful and intense documentation journey out of all my experiences as a journalist. Each visit in the Văcărești Delta and each interaction with the wonderful children of Gică Enache, each event that brought us closer to mapping this complex story brought me indescribable emotions and joy.

The Best Child in the World

In 2022, we joined forces with Alina Șerban, the first Roma director to be featured at the National Theater in Bucharest.
Her play, “The Best Child in the World” mirrored many of the challenges we encounter in the underserved communities we work with.

Alina created a one-woman show that embodies the triumph of potential over circumstance against all odds. Education prevails as a beacon of hope and opportunity in her production, shedding light on the fight against poverty and stereotypes while presenting facts with profound humanity and empathy.

The play is based on the life story of the Roma artist herself, who wrote, directed, and portrayed the protagonist.
”The Best Child in the World” offers a poignant perspective on the life of a young Roma woman who faces dual discrimination, both social and racial.

Despite experiencing poverty and the loss of her parents during her teenage years, the heroine finds the strength to defy
a predetermined destiny. She forges her path through sheer resilience and determination.

The show is about the power to achieve the impossible, about the effort to make peace with the past and one’s own identity, and about deconstructing through humanity and empathy the stereotypes associated with the Roma people.
